KATHMANDU: The Chief Whip of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Gyan Bahadur Shahi, has called for an investigation into the funds received from the United States under various headings.
Speaking at a meeting of the Finance Committee in the House of Representatives on Thursday, Shahi emphasized the need to account for these funds.
He stated that after U.S. President Biden labeled the funds coming to Nepal under federalism as corruption, it is necessary to investigate who brought them and why, and take appropriate action.
Shahi pointed out that the disgrace caused to the Nepali community in the U.S. due to the president’s remarks was a result of corrupt leaders.
He also argued that foreign funds should not be brought into Nepal without the approval of the Nepal Rastra Bank and urged the committee to call the governor to provide a report.
Commenting on those who supported the passing of the MCC, Shahi sarcastically stated that they would soon be in a position to flee the country after the U.S. “showed a cigarette.” He also claimed that Nepal’s share of the MCC funds was now at risk of being wasted.
He further emphasized that the economic system and national projects of Nepal had been derailed due to corrupt leaders and called for a thorough investigation into those involved in “white corruption” to ensure proper action is taken.
