Snowfall at tourist destination Ghodepani

KATHMANDU: Snowfall in Ghodepani, a popular tourist destination in Myagdi, occurred on Thursday afternoon.

The snowfall was reported in Ghodepani of Annapurna Rural Municipality-6, Punhill, and Khopralek in Ward No. 5.

Located at an altitude of 2,800 meters above sea level, Ghodepani and Punhill, situated at 3,210 meters, experienced snowfall this afternoon, according to Meena Pun, the chairperson of the Ghodepani Hotel Management Subcommittee.

Ghodepani and Punhill are major destinations on the Annapurna Circuit. This marks the second snowfall of the season in Ghodepani.

“The weather has been cold since this morning, and light snow is currently falling. The snow has started to cover the surrounding mountains in white,” Meena Pun said. “The cold has intensified after the snowfall.”

With the snowfall, the nearby mountains have turned completely white.

Snow usually falls in the months of Poush and Magh, but this snowfall occurred in the first week of Falgun. Light snowfall had occurred earlier in Poush as well.

Before the snowfall, the mountains had appeared as dark hills. The snowfall is expected to increase tourist arrivals, Meena Pun added.

Additionally, light rain was reported in Myagdi after a long time on Thursday afternoon.
