KATHMANDU: The final rites of Prakriti Lamsal, a Nepali student who was found dead under suspicious circumstances at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in India, were performed at Swargadwari Ghat in Bhairahawa.

Her mortal remains arrived in Bhairahawa at 9 PM via Gorakhpur.

However, as her parents were on a later flight, the body was temporarily kept at Universal College of Medical Sciences.

At 11 PM, it was taken to her residence in Siddharthanagar-8, where family members, relatives, neighbors, and well-wishers paid their final respects. The funeral procession then proceeded to Swargadwari Ghat, where the cremation was carried out.

Prakriti’s grandfather, Devnath Lamsal, performed the last rites. A large number of locals attended the funeral, and her fellow students from KIIT University also traveled to Bhairahawa to offer their condolences.

Born on Asar 4, 2061 BS, Prakriti was found hanging in her hostel room on Sunday.

Her death is considered suspicious, prompting an investigation by Indian authorities. One individual has been taken into custody in connection with the case.

The incident has reignited concerns over the safety of Nepali students abroad, with widespread discussions and demands for justice circulating on social media.
