KATHMANDU: Rastriya Janamorcha’s Chairperson Chitra Bahadur KC asserted that democracy was the only viable system for governance, asserting that there was no alternative to it.
At a programme organized in Baglung district marking the 75th National Democracy Day today, Chairperson KC said democracy was at stake.
KC, also former Deputy Prime Minister, claimed that certain forces were working towards dismantling the democratic system and replacing it with autocratic governance system in the country.
He, however, expressed his confidence that no force could overthrow the democracy established through the sacrifices of the people.
He viewed that those in power and in governance should not deliver against the aspirations and sentiments of citizens. Instead, their action should align with the aspirations of the citizens.
According to him, some people were raising question over relevance and need of democracy and republican system. He dismissed such notion, terming it as a rumour spread by regressive forces.
The septuagenarian leader further argued that democracy was not a gift but it is a system which was earned by the Nepali citizens by overthrowing autocratic rule. Hence, he argued that democracy was indispensable to Nepal.
On a different note, he observed that millions of Nepali youth would not seek greener pasture if the development pledges made by the politicians and parliamentarians were fulfilled.
The Janamorcha Chair also expressed his displeasure over the failure of the political leadership in addressing the needs and wishes thereby further driving migration of Nepali youths to abroad.
Addressing the concerns of increasing exodus of Nepali youths abroad, he called on the government to create an enabling environment back home to prevent such exodus.
