KATHMANDU: Flight operations resumed at Tumlingtar Airport in Sankhuwasabha after a three-week halt, following an improvement in weather conditions.

On Wednesday, a 72-seat Buddha Air flight took off.

The airport had been closed for flights since Jan 27 due to thick fog and reduced visibility around the airport.

As the fog lifted and the surrounding mountains cleared of snow, visibility improved to at least 5 kilometers, allowing flights to resume.

Buddha Air’s 72-seat aircraft had been operating on the Kathmandu-Tumlingtar route before the suspension.

According to Navraj Dahal, the head of the Civil Aviation Authority, the resumption was made possible as visibility improved and the fog in the area cleared, although the weather has not yet fully cleared.

Previously, visibility had been limited to only 500 meters due to the dense fog.
