Trump orders dismissal of Biden-appointed U.S. attorneys

KATHMANDU: Former President Donald Trump has ordered the dismissal of all remaining U.S. attorneys appointed by his successor, Joe Biden.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump claimed, “The politicization of the Department of Justice in the past four years has never been seen before. Therefore, I have directed the dismissal of all remaining ‘Biden-era’ U.S. attorneys.”
He added, “We must clean house immediately and restore trust. America’s golden age must have a fair justice system, starting today.”
It is common for a sitting president to replace U.S. attorneys appointed by the previous administration. There are 93 U.S. attorneys across 94 federal districts, with one serving in each district, except for two.
Following Trump’s victory in the November election, many of Biden’s appointees have continued their roles, though some have resigned.
Trump has repeatedly accused the Justice Department of unfairly targeting him, and since Republicans took office, there has been significant turmoil, with numerous senior officials being dismissed, reassigned, or replaced.
Among those dismissed were members of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s office, which filed two criminal charges against Trump.
Last week, the acting U.S. Attorney for New York’s powerful Southern District resigned after the Justice Department urged the dismissal of corruption charges against Mayor Eric Adams.
