KATHMANDU: Russia’s “massive” attack on the southwestern Ukrainian port city of Odesa has disrupted electricity supply in a large residential area.

Odesa’s mayor, Hennadiy Trukhanov, reported that the blackout has plunged the area into darkness, and the extreme cold has further affected daily life.

In a Telegram post, Trukhanov stated, “The enemy’s large-scale attack has left a significant portion of the residential area without electricity, water, and other essential services.”

He also mentioned that 14 schools and over 500 homes are without power, and at least one person has been hospitalized.

Trukhanov did not provide further details on the nature of the attack.

For the past three years, Russia has targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, cities, and villages.

The attack occurred a day after Russia and the United States agreed to form teams for peace talks to end the ongoing war in Ukraine.
