KATHMANDU: Bayern Munich has advanced to the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 after securing a 1-1 draw against Celtic in the second leg of the playoffs on Tuesday.
A dramatic injury-time equalizer from Alphonso Davies ensured Bayern’s progression with a 3-2 aggregate victory.
Celtic had taken the lead in the 63rd minute through Nicolas Kühn, but Davies’ late goal secured Bayern’s place in the next round.
Bayern had won the first leg 2-1, giving them the edge in the tie.
Club Brugge, Benfica, and Feyenoord Also Advance
Belgian side Club Brugge, Portuguese giants Benfica, and Dutch club Feyenoord have also booked their places in the last 16.
- Club Brugge dominated Atalanta, winning 3-1 in the second leg and advancing with a 5-2 aggregate score.
- Benfica secured their spot after a thrilling 3-3 draw against AS Monaco, progressing with a 4-3 aggregate victory.
- Feyenoord eliminated AC Milan, holding them to a 1-1 draw in the second leg and advancing with a 2-1 aggregate lead.
AC Milan Falls Short
AC Milan failed to reach the Round of 16 after being held by Feyenoord.
- Milan had taken an early lead through Santiago Giménez in the first minute.
- However, Julian Carranza equalized in the 73rd minute to ensure Feyenoord’s qualification.
- The match saw two red cards, with Milan’s Theo Hernández sent off in the 51st minute and Feyenoord’s Quinten Timber receiving a red card late in the game.
Feyenoord will now face either Inter Milan or Arsenal in the next round.
