Ram Bahadur Bomjon faces money laundering charges

KATHMANDU: Self-proclaimed ascetic Ram Bahadur Bomjon, who is currently serving a prison sentence for child sexual abuse, has now been charged with money laundering.

The District Government Attorney’s Office filed the case at the Sarlahi District Court on Monday.

The case alleges that Bamjan laundered Rs 859 million.

He is also accused of disappearing four individuals, murdering one person, and sexually assaulting a follower.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) had arrested him in Poush 2080 from a house in Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu.

During the arrest, police seized Rs 30.3 million in cash along with foreign currencies from 17 countries worth Rs 3.092 million.

The Sarlahi District Court had previously convicted Bamjan under Section 66 (3) (cha) of the Children’s Act, 2075, which defines child sexual abuse, including using children for sexual gratification. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison and ordered to compensate the victim with Rs 500,000.

Now, another case has been filed against him, adding to the serious allegations of forced disappearances, murder, and sexual violence.
