Nepali student’s death in India: Protests lead to arrests

KATHMANDU: A Nepali student studying at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in India was found dead under suspicious circumstances in her hostel, leading to protests by fellow Nepali students.
The deceased, Prakriti Lamsal from Butwal, was discovered in her hostel room on Sunday.
In response to the incident, Nepali students organized demonstrations demanding a thorough investigation.
However, reports suggest that college authorities began detaining protesting students.
KIIT has issued a statement claiming that Lamsal died by suicide.
The college suspects she had a romantic relationship with another student.
Lamsal was a third-year B.Tech student at KIIT.
The postmortem report is still pending.
Around 1,500 Nepali students are enrolled at the college.
