Adventure half marathon to be held in Kanchenjunga base camp

KATHMANDU: The Kanchenjunga adventure half marathon competition is to be organized under the aegis of Sirijunga Rural Municipality of Taplejung.

Vice-Chair of Sirijunga Rural Municipality Dr Chitra Mabo, a half marathon competition will be organized on the occasion of the Sirijunga Festival-2025 from 26-28 April 2025.
According to the rural municipality, the competition will be held at an altitude of 4,500 meters above sea level in kanchanjunga base camp area.
Cash prizes will be provided to the winner and runners-up of the marathon. According to the rural municipality, the winner will get Rs 208,586, the first runner-up Rs 108,586 and the second runner-up Rs 85,586.
As per the decision of the executive committee, the competition will be held at a distance of 24 kilometers from New Jhoreni, Kasturedanda, Jhandedanda, Sindure Waya, Tuplung, Dundudanda, Dhaun Chowk, Bhedi Chowk to Machhewa.
The rural municipality has said that a mountain cycling programme will also be organized along with the competition.
The hosts believe that the impact of climate change in the mountainous region can be studied, observed and the adventure trekking route can also be monitored with the adventure event.
