KATHMANDU: Nepal’s young midfielder Aashish Rai has undergone surgery on his left leg after suffering a severe injury during a friendly match against China’s Yunnan team.
Rai sustained the injury at Dasharath Stadium during a match held on the occasion of the Chinese New Year.
A harsh tackle from an opposing player resulted in a fractured left leg.
His surgery was performed on Sunday at B&B Hospital, Lalitpur, by a team led by senior orthopedic surgeon Dr. Amit Joshi.
Dr. Joshi confirmed the success of the operation. “The surgery was successfully completed today. His left leg bone was fractured, and a rod has been implanted. Though his condition is improving, he remains under close monitoring due to the risk of compartment syndrome,” he stated.
Currently playing for Nepal Police Club, Rai will be sidelined for several months.
Having previously played in the Nepal Super League for Kathmandu in the first season and Ilam in the second, he is now set to miss the ongoing season.
