KATHMANDU: A 4.0-magnitude earthquake jolted New Delhi on Monday at 5:36 AM, according to India’s National Seismology Centre.
The tremor originated at a depth of approximately five kilometers.
Following the quake, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to take necessary safety precautions and instructed security officials to enhance monitoring.
Delhi Police assured that there were no reported casualties or major damage and advised residents to call 112 for emergency assistance if needed.
Former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi Singh described the tremors as strong and prayed for everyone’s safety in a post on X.
The quake caused panic, with residents of Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad rushing out of their homes.
