Civil Hospital’s daily wage workers protest for fair pay & benefits
He emphasized that the healthcare sector is a respected field and workers should receive dignified compensation.

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu’s Minbhawan-based Civil Hospital’s daily wage workers have launched a protest demanding minimum wages and benefits as set by the government.
According to Keshav Rokaya, the central president of the National Health Workers’ Labor Organization, the protest aims to secure fair pay and benefits for daily wage employees, an issue that has persisted since the hospital’s establishment.
He emphasized that the healthcare sector is a respected field and workers should receive dignified compensation.
Rokaya also pointed out that both eight-hour and four-hour workers receive the same type of benefits, urging authorities to address this unfair practice.
Additionally, he demanded that daily wage workers be granted benefits with an age limit provision.
Pankha BK, a worker from the hospital’s radiology department, accused the management of making employees work without providing appropriate benefits.
He further alleged that instead of adhering to government standards, hospital directors have been appointing their own staff, leading to the current agitation.
The workers have warned of escalating their protest, including a demonstration outside the Prime Minister’s Office, if their demands are not met.
