KATHMANDU: Saptari police have arrested Santosh Sah, a fugitive accused of murdering his wife ten months after their marriage.

Sah, a resident of Shambhunath Municipality-2, was apprehended on Thursday as part of an ongoing search for absconding defendants, said Saptari Police Chief SP Dhakendra Khatiwada.

According to Khatiwada, Sah brutally assaulted his wife, Gayatri Kumari, on the night of Chaitra 6, 2076 BS (March 19, 2020), and abandoned her about 400 meters east of the Traffic Chowk in Shambhunath Municipality-2.

Locals discovered her the next day and took her to Unique Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

Following the incident, Sah had been on the run. Investigations reveal that he and Gayatri were married on Jestha 26, 2076 BS (June 9, 2019), but frequent disputes plagued their relationship.

The Rajbiraj District Court has granted police three days to keep Sah in custody for further investigation into the murder case.
