KATHMANDU: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has appointed Rajat Patidar as their captain for the upcoming IPL 2025 season.
The franchise made the announcement on Thursday in the presence of team director Mo Bobat and head coach Andy Flower.
Patidar, who has been with RCB since 2021, has played 28 matches, scoring 799 runs at a strike rate of 158.85.
He replaces Faf du Plessis, who captained the team from 2022 to 2024 but was not retained.
While Virat Kohli was initially speculated to take over the captaincy, RCB has instead entrusted Patidar with the leadership role.
The 31-year-old has prior captaincy experience with Madhya Pradesh in domestic cricket but will be leading an IPL team for the first time.
He was retained by RCB ahead of the mega auction in November last year.
Despite reaching three finals, RCB has yet to win an IPL title. Last season, the team made it to the playoffs.
With RCB confirming their captain, Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals remain the only franchises yet to announce their skippers for IPL 2025.
Shreyas Iyer, who led KKR last season, will now captain Punjab Kings, while former Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant is set to lead Lucknow Super Giants.
