KATHMANDU: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has initiated repairs on a damaged pipeline in Babarmahal, Kathmandu, which ruptured during the “Horizontal Drilling” process for underground electrification work on Wednesday afternoon.

The pipeline, part of the bulk water distribution system supplying the Kathmandu Valley, burst and flooded the Babarmahal area for nearly four hours, affecting several government offices, including the Special Court.

According to Ashok Kumar Paudel, Chief Executive Officer of Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL), the repair work began last night after shutting off the water supply. “After the pipe ruptured, water flooded Babarmahal. Once the water supply was shut off, we started repairs last night. Once completed, we will resume the water distribution process,” Paudel confirmed.
