KATHMANDU: Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Minister Deepak Khadka held a meeting with India’s Minister of Jal Shakti, C.R. Patil, in New Delhi.
Minister Khadka, who is in India for the ‘India Energy Week 2025,’ met his counterpart, Patil, at Shram Shakti Bhawan in New Delhi.
During the meeting, both ministers agreed to expedite the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the Pancheshwar Multipurpose Project and advance its progress.
Senior officials from Nepal’s Ministry of Energy confirmed that the link canal from Tanakpur to the Nepal-India border has been completed, and the operational procedures will soon be finalized, in accordance with the Mahakali Treaty, for the release of water.
Additionally, the ministers discussed holding a joint committee meeting for flood and inundation management between March 22-24, with formal communications to be sent by the concerned authorities.
They also agreed to move forward with discussions on the DPR of the Sapta Koshi Multipurpose Project through bilateral meetings.
Minister Khadka reflected on the significant progress made during their meeting on November 5, 2024, which has further strengthened the cooperation between the two nations in the field of water resources.
Minister Patil assured that the Indian government is committed to finalizing the DPR of the Pancheshwar Project and moving the initiative forward at the earliest.
The meeting was attended by Nepal’s Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Suresh Acharya, Senior Energy Expert Prabal Adhikari, Joint Secretary Sandip Kumar Dev, and Economic Advisor to the Minister, Amit Shrestha, alongside senior officials from India.
