KATHMANDU: Bayern Munich secured a 2-1 victory over Celtic in the first leg of their Champions League playoff on Wednesday.
Michael Olise and Harry Kane scored for Bayern, while Celtic’s Daizen Maeda pulled one back for the visitors.
Olise gave Bayern the lead in the final minute of the first half, while Kane strengthened Bayern’s chances of advancing to the Round of 16 with a goal in the fourth minute of the second half.
Maeda found the net for Celtic in the 79th minute, but it wasn’t enough to avoid defeat.
In other playoff matches, Portugal’s Benfica, Belgium’s Club Brugge, and the Netherlands’ Feyenoord all triumphed.
Benfica defeated France’s AS Monaco 1-0, while Feyenoord beat Italy’s AC Milan by the same scoreline.
Club Brugge emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over Italy’s Atalanta.
