KATHMANDU: Tanahun police have arrested a teacher for burning the cheeks of four students with a hot spatula.

The accused, 34-year-old Sushma Shrestha, a teacher and accountant at Academy Boarding School in Bhimad Municipality-6, allegedly inflicted burns on four fourth-grade students as punishment for making noise.

Shrestha, who is also the daughter of the school’s founder and principal, Krishna Dev Shrestha, reportedly brought the spatula from home, heated it, and pressed it against the students’ cheeks.

The victims, all 10 years old, suffered severe burns, leading to widespread outrage among parents and the local community.

According to Bishnu Pariyar, a mother of one of the victims, parents were left devastated upon learning that their children were subjected to such inhumane treatment inside the school.

Tanahun police spokesperson, Inspector Raju Adhikari, revealed that two more students were found to be victims during the investigation.

Shrestha has been taken into custody, and the district court has extended her detention by five days for further investigation under child abuse charges.
