KATHMANDU: The Department of Roads has initiated repairs on the BP Highway, which was severely damaged due to flooding.

The restoration work is focused on several sections, including the stretch from Bhakundebesi to Nepalthok.

According to the department, work has begun on the 13-kilometer section of the highway that sustained the most damage.

Of this 13 kilometers, reconstruction of 8.5 kilometers of road has already started.

Suman Yogesh, the head of the Road Division Office in Bhaktapur, shared that repairs are underway at 14 damaged locations along the highway. He emphasized, “Currently, we have prioritized the BP Highway, and our goal is to ensure that traffic is not disrupted. We are also prepared to work at night if necessary.”

A team led by Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Devendra Dahal, conducted an on-site inspection of the highway this past Saturday.

During the inspection, Minister Dahal expressed a commitment to ensuring that resources will not be a barrier in the reconstruction of the road.

The repair work is critical for restoring transportation along the highway, which is an important route for both local and national traffic.
