KATHMANDU: Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi held a phone conversation on Tuesday with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
During the discussion, they focused on the recent developments in the Gaza Strip and the need for reconstruction efforts without displacing its residents.
Both sides emphasized the importance of fully implementing the ceasefire agreement in three phases, the exchange of hostages and prisoners, and ensuring immediate and unhindered access for humanitarian aid to Gaza.
El-Sisi and Frederiksen stressed the necessity of rebuilding Gaza to make it habitable again while protecting the rights of its Palestinian population and their ability to remain on their land without displacement.
The talks reaffirmed the importance of establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders, viewing it as the only guarantee for lasting peace, stability, and desired economic prosperity.
This statement comes amid rising concerns following U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent suggestion to redevelop Gaza and relocate its population to neighboring countries, including Egypt.
The controversial proposal has been widely rejected on both regional and international levels. Egypt has reiterated its opposition to any forced displacement of Palestinians.
Following more than 15 months of deadly conflict in Gaza, Israel and Hamas have been implementing a ceasefire agreement since Jan 19, brokered by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States.
