KATHMANDU: In a statement during the parliamentary session on Tuesday, Rastriya Prajatantra Party’s chief whip, Gyan Bahadur Shahi, emphasized the need for two separate laws in Nepal.

He argued that the current law treats individuals differently based on their affiliations, suggesting that one law should apply to ordinary citizens and another for those associated with former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s government.

Shahi criticized the legal inconsistencies, referencing how individuals linked to Oli’s government are seemingly allowed to engage in unlawful behavior without consequence.

He pointed out that, under such circumstances, people could commit serious crimes like rape and still walk freely in the country.

He expressed his discontent with the system where citizens are detained for voicing their opinions or minor offenses while high-ranking officials, including ministers, face no repercussions for their misconduct.

He questioned the state of rule of law, pointing out instances of ministers making threats, such as the one made by a minister about cutting off the IGP’s tongue, without facing any real consequences.
