KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has refused to release former Home Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey, who is implicated in the fake Bhutanese refugee case, issuing an “other” order instead.
Pandey’s wife, Manju, had filed a habeas corpus writ at the Supreme Court, claiming his detention was illegal.
However, the joint bench of Justices Sapana Malla Pradhan and Binod Sharma ruled with an “other” order on her petition.
Earlier, the Kathmandu District Court had ordered the imprisonment of 16 individuals, including former ministers Bal Krishna Khand and Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, as well as Secretary Pandey, for trial.
Challenging the district court’s decision, all 16 accused had moved the Patan High Court.
While Khand was released on bail after depositing Rs 3 million, Pandey remains in custody.
