KATHMANDU: The teaser of the upcoming Nepali movie Anjila, set to release on March 13 (Fagun 29), has been unveiled.
The teaser showcases the journey of Nepal’s national women’s football team captain and number one goalkeeper, Anjila Tumbapo Subba.
It highlights her struggle from being confined within her home to becoming the team captain.
The teaser portrays a story of dreamers who fight against all odds. A voiceover from a radio broadcast states, “If there is one unblemished field that represents the nation internationally, it is sports,” reinforcing the movie’s theme. Anjila herself plays the lead role, while actor Dayahang Rai and actress Srijana Subba portray her parents.
The teaser also reveals a conflict within the family—her father opposes football, while her mother supports her dreams. In one scene, her father says, “Your football has ruined my honor.” In contrast, her mother expresses faith in her daughter, saying, “I believe in you. When you return, there will be a crowd following you, and I will proudly announce that my daughter is coming.” Another striking moment shows young Anjila telling her school, “I told my father I wouldn’t play football anymore just to get my tuition fees. Please give my position to someone else.” This dialogue encapsulates her struggle in pursuing her dream.
Director Milan Chams stated that the movie is based on Anjila’s real-life struggles, portraying her past and her relentless fight for the future. He emphasized that Anjila delivers a strong message—with determination, nothing is impossible.
Alongside Anjila, the film features Sunil Thapa, Dayahang Rai, Bijay Baral, Srijana Subba, Maotse Gurung, and Buddhi Tamang. Producer Prem Kumar Shrestha also plays a significant role in the film.
The grand world premiere of Anjila took place on Dec 8 (Mangsir 23) in Hong Kong. Currently, director Chams and producer Shrestha are in London, organizing the UK premiere.
The movie will be released in the UK, USA, Australia, and Japan before its official release in Nepal.
Filming took place in Anjila’s birthplace, Ilam’s Aitabare, as well as in Jhapa and Kathmandu. The cinematography was done by Sudip Baral, with editing by Milan Shrestha. Anjila is produced under the Moon Love Entertainment banner, with Prem Kumar Shrestha as the lead producer.
Tubendra Limbu, Binod Agrawal, and Rajesh Bagdia served as co-producers, while Binod Subedi Khatri handled production control.
