Maoist Chief Whip criticizes removal of anti-corruption bill from parliament agenda
Pandey criticized the government's disregard for the agenda set by the Parliamentary Business Advisory Committee.
KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Centre) Chief Whip Hit Raj Pandey has raised objections over the government’s decision to remove the Anti-Corruption Prevention Bill from the parliamentary agenda.
Speaking during a session of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Pandey criticized the government’s disregard for the agenda set by the Parliamentary Business Advisory Committee.
He accused the government of undermining the legislature, questioning whether the institution, representing the people, should follow the government’s commands or uphold its own decisions.
Pandey also accused the government of breaching parliamentary practices and traditions while presenting legislative bills.
The controversy erupted after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli proposed a discussion on amendments to the Anti-Corruption Prevention Act along with the report of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee.
However, the bill was unexpectedly removed from the agenda at the last minute, prompting objections from the opposition.
