51 dead as bus plunges into river in Guatemala City

KATHMANDU: At least 51 people have died after a bus carrying 75 passengers plunged into a river on Monday in Guatemala City.

According to local media, the vehicle, traveling from El Rancho village, crashed into a car before falling into the 20-meter deep river.

Guatemala’s President, Bernardo Arévalo, expressed sorrow over the human loss in the accident and declared a national period of mourning.

He instructed the national coordinator for disaster reduction to visit the site and activated special medical care measures for the injured.
