Free cardiac health checkup provided to 3500 people in Gorkha

A team of 32 medical professionals and health workers, led by senior cardiologist Dr. Anil Bhattarai from the Manmohan Cardio-Thoracic Vascular and Transplant Centre, conducted heart checkups for those who attended the camp.

KATHMANDU: A total of 3,510 individuals have undergone checkups at a two-day free heart health camp held here.

Binod Kumar Basnyat, President of the Rotary Club of Gorkha, informed that the camp, conducted at Gorkha Hospital in the district headquarters, was utilized by the general public for heart examinations.

A team of 32 medical professionals and health workers, led by senior cardiologist Dr. Anil Bhattarai from the Manmohan Cardio-Thoracic Vascular and Transplant Centre, conducted heart checkups for those who attended the camp.

Dr. Bhattarai mentioned that among those checked in the camp, 28 people were found to need heart surgery. “We have referred 28 individuals who underwent heart examinations to the Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Centre for further treatment,” he said, adding, “of which 6 need immediate treatment.” Dr. Bhattarai informed that 413 individuals had ECG tests and 479 had echocardiograms through the camp.

The Rotary Club of Gorkha and the Rotaract Club of Gorkha organized a camp in collaboration with Save the Heart, Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Centre, Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj, with technical support from Gorakha Hospital.

Free medicines were also provided to patients examined at the camp based on their needs. Kishorjang Thapa, the coordinator of the organizing committee, shared that arrangements were made for free surgery for all patients who needed surgery among those who had heart examinations at the camp.

The organizers reported that health treatment services worth approximately five million rupees were provided to the patients through the camp.
