KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress lawmaker Jitjung Basnet has stated that former chairs and vice chairs should not re-enter active politics.

Speaking at the National Assembly meeting on Sunday, Basnet emphasized that individuals who have held the highest public offices should not return to political activities, as it goes against ethical principles.

Referring to former Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun’s presence at a CPN (Maoist Centre) party meeting, he expressed surprise, questioning the moral grounds of such involvement.

“A president or vice president represents the highest public position. Parents dream of seeing their children in such esteemed roles. But once someone has held that office, should they be attending party meetings and aspiring for leadership positions again? This is ethically questionable,” Basnet remarked.

He further criticized the use of threatening language in protests related to legal matters, stating that such behavior was inappropriate.
