KATHMANDU: A single khukuri priced at Rs 111,111 might seem unbelievable, but it’s true.
Blacksmith Santosh Bishwakarma has crafted a massive 30-kg khukuri, which has become a major attraction at the ongoing Fourth Rampur Festival and Trade Fair.
The khukuri, with a length of eight feet and a total weight of 42 kg including the sheath, has drawn significant attention.
Bishwakarma said he created the oversized khukuri to preserve the traditional significance of the weapon and to educate the younger generation about its importance.
It took him and three assistants 20 days to complete the khukuri, with an estimated production cost of NPR 30,000 excluding labor charges.
The unique piece has become a crowd-puller, with visitors eagerly taking photos, recording videos, and sharing them on social media platforms like TikTok, further fueling its popularity.
Apart from the khukuri, Bishwakarma has also displayed various iron tools for agricultural and household use. “The khukuri represents Nepal’s pride. I regularly exhibit it at local fairs and festivals to showcase its value. Alongside, I also display essential agricultural and household tools,” he shared.
As the owner of Bishwakarma Blacksmith Industry in Waling Municipality-8, Syangja, he revealed that many people seek khukuris for home decoration. Previously, he had sold a 13-kg khukuri for Rs 45,000 and a 20-kg khukuri for Rs 55,000.
The Fourth Rampur Festival and Trade Fair, organized by the Rampur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, began on Jan 28 and will run until Feb 9. Local products have been a major attraction for visitors at the event.
