KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress lawmaker Nagina Yadav has called on the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) to ensure the safety of scrap dealers, alleging that the city has been cracking down on them.

Speaking at the House of Representatives on Friday, Yadav accused KMC of demolishing physical structures and forcefully detaining scrap dealers.

She highlighted the crucial role of the scrap business in supplying raw materials to industries and reducing the country’s trade deficit, claiming that KMC’s actions were anarchic.

She further alleged that scrap dealers have been subjected to physical assault, verbal abuse, and mistreatment, urging authorities to put an end to such unlawful activities.

Yadav also emphasized that scrap dealers contribute to environmental cleanliness and should not be targeted unfairly.
