Severe air pollution in Yangon, Myanmar

KATHMANDU: Yangon, Myanmar, is experiencing severe air pollution, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) fluctuating between 50 and 200.
According to U Hla Tun, director of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, AQI levels reaching 200 are considered unhealthy.
He stated that excessive vehicle use has led to increased pollution levels, particularly in the mornings and evenings.
Major contributors to air pollution include vehicle emissions, waste burning, and wildfires.
Additionally, frequent power outages in Yangon have forced industries to rely on generators, further worsening air pollution.
Health experts warn that the deteriorating air quality poses serious respiratory risks, especially for the elderly, children, and individuals with tuberculosis.
