KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane’s total bail amount has reached Rs 27.9 million in multiple cooperative fund embezzlement cases.
District courts in Kaski, Kathmandu, Rupandehi, and Chitwan set the bail amounts in connection with fund misappropriation from Surya Darshan, Swarnalaxmi, Supreme, and Sahara cooperatives.
The courts ordered Rs 6.5 million in Kaski, Rs 6 million in Kathmandu, Rs 10 million in Rupandehi, and Rs 5.4 million in Chitwan.
On Thursday, the Chitwan District Court released Lamichhane on Rs 5.4 million bail through a bank guarantee from Prabhu Bank.
The same bank had provided guarantees for his bail in other cases as well.
Meanwhile, legal proceedings related to the Sano Paila Cooperative in Parsa are still pending.
Lamichhane had previously declared assets worth Rs 110,000 in cash and a piece of land measuring one ropani and one ana in Bhaktapur while serving as Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister.
As he walked free, Lamichhane’s supporters took to the streets in Chitwan—his electoral stronghold—chanting slogans in his favor. Some demonstrators even carried their land ownership certificates to show support, RSP leader Pramod Nyaupane said.
