Arsenal eliminated from English League Cup after Newcastle defeat

KATHMANDU: Arsenal has crashed out of the English League Cup after a 2-0 loss to Newcastle in the second leg on Wednesday.

With a 2-0 defeat in the first leg as well, Arsenal lost 4-0 on aggregate.

Jacob Murphy opened the scoring for Newcastle in the 19th minute, while Anthony Gordon doubled the lead in the 52nd minute, sealing Arsenal’s exit from the tournament.

Newcastle will now face the winner of the Liverpool vs. Tottenham clash in the final.

The second leg between Liverpool and Tottenham is set for Thursday, with Tottenham holding a 1-0 advantage from the first leg.

In the Premier League standings, Arsenal sits second, while Newcastle is in sixth place.
