KATHMANDU: Chitwan District Court has ordered the detention of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President and former Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane in connection with a cooperative fraud case.
The court, under the bench of Judge Dayaram Dhakal, issued the order on Wednesday, citing the ongoing trial proceedings.
As the hearing on his detention is yet to conclude, Lamichhane has been handed over to security personnel and sent to the District Police Office.
He will be presented before the court again on Thursday at 10 AM, according to Chitwan District Court spokesperson Amrit Bishwakarma.
The case involves Sahara Chitwan Multipurpose Cooperative, where Lamichhane and 31 others have been accused of fraud.
The trial began today following the filing of charges on Tuesday.
During Wednesday’s session, government attorneys, including District Attorney Rabi Nyaupane and Assistant Attorneys Amrit Suvedi and Buddhabahadur Thapa, presented their arguments.
On behalf of the complainants, advocate Ramesh Kafle argued in court.
The remaining arguments from the complainants’ lawyers and Lamichhane’s defense team will continue on Thursday.
