PM Oli reviews progress of Kathmandu-Terai/Madhesh Expressway
PM Oli emphasized that the Nepal Army was entrusted with the project for quality execution and urged the concerned ministries to study the Khokana issue further and propose solutions.
KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli held a briefing today on the progress, challenges, and solutions related to the Kathmandu-Terai/Madhesh Expressway, a project of national pride.
The discussion took place at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, with participation from Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, Physical Infrastructure and Transport Minister Devendra Dahal, Defense Minister Manbir Rai, Economic Affairs Advisor Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada, Chief of Army Staff Ashok Raj Sigdel, and other high-ranking officials.
During the meeting, Nepal Army representatives highlighted key challenges, including prolonged delays in land acquisition at the Khokana starting point and delays in tree clearance along the project area.
In response, PM Oli emphasized that the Nepal Army was entrusted with the project for quality execution and urged the concerned ministries to study the Khokana issue further and propose solutions.
The expressway, spanning 70.97 kilometers, was launched in 2017 with an estimated budget of Rs 211.93 billion.
The revised completion deadline is set for Chaitra 2083 BS.
According to the Nepal Army, the project’s overall physical progress stands at 37.6%, while financial progress has reached 39.74%.
