36,950 girls in Banke to receive HPV vaccine

KATHMANDU: A total of 36,950 girls and adolescents in Banke will receive the HPV vaccine to prevent cervical cancer.

According to Angat Bahadur Shahi, Chief of the Health Office, the targeted communities for the vaccine include 3,183 in Raptisonari, 7,448 in Kohalpur, 4,114 in Baijnath, 5,872 in Khajura, 1,950 in Janaki, 9,319 in Nepalgunj, 2,584 in Duduwa, and 2,480 in Narinapur.
The first phase of the vaccination campaign will take place from Feb 4 to 13, targeting 22,589 girls and adolescents in Nepalgunj Metropolitan City, Kohalpur Municipality, Khajura Rural Municipality, and Janaki Rural Municipality.
In the second phase, starting from Feb 12, 12,361 girls and adolescents in Raptisonari, Baijnath, Duduwa, and Narinapur will be vaccinated.
Shahi informed that preparations for the first phase of the vaccination campaign have been completed, targeting girls and adolescents aged 10 to 14.
On this occasion, Gyanendra Chaudhary, Chairman of the District Coordination Committee, Banke, emphasized that the success of the vaccination program is a collective responsibility.
Dr. Rajan Pandey, a physician in Nepalgunj, explained that while there is no vaccine for all cancers, this vaccine can prevent cervical cancer and serves as a protective shield.
Nareshbabu Shrestha, vaccination contact person at the Health Office, informed that the campaign would provide the Seacolin vaccine to prevent cervical cancer caused by the HPV virus.
He also mentioned that discussions had been held with Maulanas, Imams, and teachers from Madrasas regarding the vaccine.
Girls in grades 6 to 10 in 378 schools and girls aged 10 to 14 who are not in school will be vaccinated.
A total of 459 vaccination centers have been established, with 378 in schools and 81 in other locations.
