President, PM, and Chief Justice observe Basant Shravan
The centuries-old tradition sees Nepal’s head of state and other dignitaries mark the arrival of spring through the Basanta Shravan ritual.
KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel observed Basanta Panchami by participating in the traditional Basanta Shravan ceremony on Monday.
The auspicious ritual took place at Nasal Chowk, Hanuman Dhoka Durbar, where the chief priest of Hanuman Dhoka performed abhishek and offered tika, garland, and sacred flowers to the President.

A contingent of the Nepal Army honored the President with a guard of honor and played a ceremonial tune to mark the occasion.
The event was attended by Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, National Assembly Chairman Narayan Prasad Dahal, and several ministers.
According to the Shrimad Bhagavat Mahapurana, Goddess Radha and her companions welcomed spring by singing Basanta Raag in devotion to Lord Krishna.
With the onset of Basanta Panchami, trees begin to sprout fresh leaves, symbolizing renewal and prosperity.
The event also featured traditional Nepali Panchai Baja music, and various Nepal Army battalions displayed their ceremonial insignias.
