India clinches second ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup title

KATHMANDU: India secured their second ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup title with a commanding nine-wicket victory over South Africa in the final on Sunday at the Bayuemas Oval, Malaysia.
Chasing a modest target of 83 runs, India comfortably reached 84/1 in just 11.2 overs. Trisha Gongadi led the charge with an unbeaten 44 off 33 balls, smashing eight boundaries.

Earlier, South Africa opted to bat first but was bowled out for 82 in 20 overs. Mieke van Vuurst was the top scorer with 23, while Jemma Botha (16), Faye Cowling (15), and Karabo Meso (10) contributed in double digits.
For India, Trisha Gongadi starred with the ball as well, claiming three wickets. Vaishnavi Sharma, Parunika Sisodia, and Ayushi Shukla picked up two wickets each, while Shabnam Shakil took one.
India had previously won the inaugural edition by defeating England in the final. Nepal also participated in this World Cup.
