KATHMANDU: The government has formed a negotiation team led by Home Ministry Joint Secretary Prem Prasad Bhattarai to address the ongoing dispute over the construction of a cable car in the Pathibhara (Mukkumlung) area of Taplejung.
According to a statement issued by the Home Ministry late Sunday, the team includes representatives from the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, and the Ministry of Urban Development.
The team will engage with stakeholders to resolve the issue through dialogue.
The negotiation team will begin work immediately, and the Home Ministry has urged agitating groups to withdraw their protests and participate in discussions to find a solution, said Home Ministry Spokesperson Ram Chandra Tiwari.
As per the Government Work Division Rules 2074, matters related to ropeways and cable car policies, laws, and standards fall under the jurisdiction of the Federal Affairs and General Administration Ministry.
The Home Ministry stated that coordination and facilitation are being ensured while considering local concerns and issues related to the cable car project.
The Home Ministry has also requested the Federal Affairs and General Administration Ministry to take the necessary steps to resolve the dispute.
Given the multi-stakeholder nature of the issue and the need for peace and security management, the Federal Affairs Ministry has suggested that the Home Ministry take the lead in coordinating with relevant bodies.
