KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation has registered the Nepal Aviation Authority Bill in the House of Representatives.

The bill proposes a legal framework allowing the private sector to operate airports.

It states that the authority can hand over the operation and management of its airports to a government or non-government entity, or to the private sector through a competitive bidding process, with approval from the Nepal government.

Additionally, the bill includes provisions for constructing airports through private investment or public-private partnerships.

In the previous parliamentary term, a bill was introduced to split the Civil Aviation Authority into separate regulatory and service-providing entities.

Although the National Assembly passed the bill with amendments, it was under discussion in the House of Representatives when the term ended, causing it to lapse.
