Baglung’s orange production valued at Rs 264.6 million despite decline
Farmers benefited from higher prices compared to the previous year.
KATHMANDU: Baglung district has generated Rs 264.6 million from orange sales this year, despite a slight decline in production.
Farmers benefited from higher prices compared to the previous year.
According to Santosh Adhikari, Information Officer at the Agricultural Knowledge Center Baglung, the district produced 4,071 metric tons of oranges this year—28 metric tons less than last year’s 4,100 metric tons.
However, due to a price increase from Rs 60 to Rs 65 per kilogram, the total revenue rose by Rs 18.6 million from last year’s Rs 246 million.
Adhikari attributed the production decline to insufficient winter irrigation and a lack of timely rainfall.
Currently, oranges are cultivated across 655 hectares in Baglung, with fruit-bearing trees spread over 377 hectares.
The primary orange-producing areas include Baglung Municipality, Kathekhola Rural Municipality, and Jaimini and Galkot Municipalities.
