Okhaldhunga sumo accident: Three family members killed

KATHMANDU: Three members of the same family lost their lives in a Sumo accident at Mane Bhanjyang, Okhaldhunga.

The vehicle, traveling from Khotang to Kathmandu with a patient, met with an accident in Mane Bhanjyang Rural Municipality.

According to the District Traffic Office, the Sumo (Na 1 J 6421) was found crashed on Thursday morning at around 6:30 AM.

The victims have been identified as 56-year-old Mayadevi Gurung, her 28-year-old son Pujan Gurung, and her 45-year-old sister Tara Gurung.

They died on the spot.

The vehicle had departed from Kepilasgadhi Rural Municipality, Khotang, carrying Mayadevi Gurung for medical treatment in Kathmandu.

Locals, who discovered the accident in the morning, informed the police, suggesting that the crash likely occurred during the night.

Meanwhile, the driver, 22-year-old Anil Pandit from Inaruwa, Sunsari, is on the run. Authorities have launched a search operation.
