KATHMANDU: Manchester City has advanced to the Champions League playoffs after a crucial comeback victory against Belgian side Club Brugge on Wednesday.

Under the revamped structure, the top eight teams in the league stage qualify directly for the knockout round, while teams ranked 9th to 24th compete in the playoffs for a spot in the Round of 16.
Before the match, City was in 25th place, making a win essential to their playoff chances.
However, they faced an early setback when Raphael Nwadike scored for Club Brugge in the final minute of the first half.
City responded strongly in the second half, equalizing in the 53rd minute through Mateo Kovačić.
They took the lead in the 62nd minute when Savinho’s cross forced an own goal by Brugge’s Ordóñez. Savinho then sealed the victory in the 77th minute.
With three wins in eight games, City finished 22nd with 11 points, securing a playoff spot.
Club Brugge, also with 11 points, finished 24th and will join them in the playoffs.
