Third edition of KP Oli Cup to kick off from Feb 23
The competition will feature 10 teams, including A Division clubs and foreign teams.
KATHMANDU: The third edition of the KP Oli Cup football tournament will be held next month.
The event organizer, the National Youth Council (NYC) of the CPN-UML, announced at a press conference on Wednesday that the tournament will take place from Feb 23 to March 3.
The competition will feature 10 teams, including A Division clubs and foreign teams.
The winner will receive Rs 1,511,111, while the runner-up will be awarded Rs 500,000, as shared by the union’s General Secretary, Suman Puri.
The quarterfinals will be played at the ANFA Complex in Satdobato, while the semifinals and final will take place at the Dasarath Stadium in Tripureshwar.
Awards for the tournament include Rs 100,000 for the Best Player, and Rs 50,000 each for the Best Goalkeeper, Top Scorer, and Most Promising Player.
The Player of the Match in every game will receive Rs 15,000, while the winning team of each match will be awarded Rs 25,000.
The organizer, Youth Union President Kshitij Thebe, mentioned that the tournament was designed to cater to all age groups’ interest in football.
The event is being held in honor of Prime Minister KP Oli’s contribution to the country and society.
Thebe emphasized that it is important to hold such tournaments in the name of influential personalities who deserve respect.
The possibility of clubs from India, Bhutan, and Uzbekistan participating in the tournament is also being explored.
The last two editions of the KP Oli Cup were won by Machhindra Club.
