KATHMANDU: The Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA), Lumbini Province, has called for establishing a narrow-body airlines base at Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa.

NATTA emphasized that operating narrow-body aircraft for destinations like China, Buddhist-centric third countries, and labor destinations in the Gulf would ensure the airport’s long-term viability.

The conclusion emerged during a workshop held in Butwal, as stated in a press release jointly signed by NATTA Lumbini Chair Chandra Bahadur Thapa and General Secretary Sita Basyal.

The statement urged the government to formulate more effective plans for the airport’s operations.

NATTA also recommended introducing incentive packages, requiring all domestic airlines to dedicate at least one aircraft for daily inter-provincial flights within a specific timeframe.

Additionally, NATTA demanded the adoption of passenger-friendly policies, such as announcing discounts on bus and hotel services for international air travelers.

The workshop, attended by Lumbini Tourism Council member Madhav Nepal as the chief guest, also finalized a year-long calendar of tourism activities.

The fellowship event saw the formation of multiple thematic committees with the participation of 50 travel entrepreneurs.
