Prachanda inaugurates Martyr Dhanrupa Memorial Park in Tehrathum

KATHMANDU: Chair of the CPN (Maoist Center) and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ inaugurated the Martyr Dhanrupa Memorial Park in Lasune Bazaar, located at the confluence of Laligurans Municipality-7 and 9, during a special event today.

Addressing the gathering, Prachanda said, “Martyrs who dedicate their lives to the nation’s progress and transformation are immortal. Their sacrifices for social upliftment and people’s rights make them revered figures, transcending party lines.”

Reflecting on the decade-long armed conflict in Nepal, he acknowledged his leadership role during that period and paid tribute to the sacrifices made by countless Nepalese families.

The event, organized by the Dhanrupa Memorial Foundation, also honored the families of 24 martyrs from Terhathum and Dhankuta who lost their lives during the Maoist insurgency.

The foundation’s chairman, Tek Bahadur Kepchaki Magar, shared that six life-size statues of martyrs from Laligurans Municipality — Dhanrupa Karki, Hark Bahadur Tiwari, Chhatramaya Thamden, Dilu Thamden, Til Bahadur Sodemba, and Bijay Gurung — have been installed in the park.

Constructed at a cost of Rs 30 million, funded by the Ministry of Urban Development, the park symbolizes the sacrifices of those who fought for justice and equality.

Prachanda, accompanied by leader Barshaman Pun, arrived at the site via a Nepal Army helicopter. According to Durga Prasad Chapagai, a provincial assembly member from Terhathum, the chairman is set to inaugurate the Martyrs’ Memorial Park and lay the foundation for a Peace Museum in Hwaku, Aathrai Rural Municipality-3, later today.

On Jan 28, he will unveil the statue of late Bhakta Raj Kandangwa in Chuhan Danda, Aathrai Rural Municipality-6, and participate in a district-level political training session organized by the party.
