KATHMANDU: Protests against the proposed cable car project at Pathibhara continue to escalate, with locals opposing the plan on cultural, religious, and social grounds.

The Mukkumlung Conservation and Cable Car Cancellation Struggle Committee has been organizing various protest programs.

As part of their efforts, a sit-in was staged in Kathmandu’s Kamaladi today, Monday.

The demonstration was supported by locals, activists, and representatives from various political parties.

Protesters argued that the construction of a cable car would violate human rights and disrupt the sanctity of the Mukkumlung region.

During the protest, participants criticized IME Group Chair Chandra Dhakal, urging the public to close accounts with Global IME Bank, which he chairs.

They also called for the closure of Global IME Bank branches in districts such as Taplejung, Panchthar, Terhathum, Dhankuta, Ilam, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, and Kathmandu.

The dispute reflects broader concerns about preserving religious and cultural heritage amid development projects.
