‘Halkara’ released on Nepali OTT platform MSM Video

KATHMANDU: The Nepali movie Halkara, Nepal’s official entry for the 96th Academy Awards (Oscars), is now available on the OTT platform MSM Video, accessible globally.

Released last year in Nepal, Halkara received critical acclaim and was featured at prominent international festivals, including the Asian World Film Festival in Los Angeles.

At the 55th WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival in 2022, it won Best Film, with Mahesh Tripathi securing Best Actor and Chintan Rajbhandari receiving the Best Cinematography award.

The film, which narrates the poignant story of a migrant worker and the woman awaiting his return, has participated in several international festivals.

It won the Best Long Narrative Film award at the Nepal America International Film Festival 2022 and reached the semifinals at the Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival 2022. Additionally, it was officially selected for the Carmarthen Bay Film Festival in the UK.

Halkara stars Mahesh Tripathi and Binita Thapamagar in lead roles. Written, directed, and edited by Bikram Sapkota, the film features a co-written screenplay by Biplab Pratik and Akash Baral.

Supporting cast members include Sharda Giri, Roshni Karki, Pashupati Rai, Umesh Tamang, Vidya Karki, and others.

Produced by Kalipar Studio in collaboration with Icefall Production, the film boasts original music by Bruno Valenti and production sound by Jyoti Rana, with color grading by Leonardo Canedian.
