KATHMANDU: The Holocaust Memorial Day is being observed across the world today with the aim of avoiding repetition of the genocide occurred during the Second World War and ensuring fraternity, love and harmony in the globe world.

UN General Assembly Resolution 6077 designates Jan 27 as the annual International Day of Remembrance for the victims of the Holocaust.

This day is celebrated with various programmes at the United Nations Headquarters in New York and in the UN offices around the world.

It may be noted that more than six million Jews were killed in the Holocaust.

On the occasion of the International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust, the Embassy of Israel, together with the Embassy of Germany and the Embassy of the United States of America, will jointly organize a memorial meeting here today, Israeli Ambassador to Israel, Shmulik Aari Bass, said.
